    Sexing Golden Severums

    Hey guys,

    Just wondering if anyone has a good idea on the sex of these two.

    Its just a random guess for me at this stage from what i've read and the pictures ive seen im still too inexperienced to say yay or nay.

    if they were Green Severums I could tell you not sure with the Golds

    Got anymore pics now that they have been in the tank for a bit and are probably more relaxed?

    im fairly sure the larger one with more colour is definitely a male, they have been locking jaws (looks like kissing) so should be interesting to see what the smaller one is Click here to enlarge

    sounds more like deciding who's the more dominate male in the tank to me.

    apparently males and females do it, but also males and males (only from what I read online)

    My first thought was the same as yours divine though. I just assumed dominance.

    Yeah i assume dominance as well they are from the same tank and i bought them as a pair so i figured they would just keep the same dominance they had before haha.

    nope they are Cichlids they will always try to establish who is top dog of the tank, it's like my 240 with 4 Oscars they are always fighting one another for the number 2 spot in the tank and I say number 2 because every other fish in the 240 knows Pat my 20" female common pleco is the boss of the tank, even my red tail catfish who's bigger knows it.Click here to enlarge

    These guys are now still doing my head in haha. they hide in the same spot and swim together event though i have 3 other Severums with them, so not sure what is going on.. The colouration has is so differant between the two Added a couple more pictures to this and hopefully when i can and if they start breeding i'll document it as best i can
